Adrienne Cady

Born and raised in the picturesque Mad River Valley, Adrienne Cady embodies a deep-rooted connection to both the local community and the great outdoors. Her journey in the hospitality industry began at the age of 15, washing dishes in the very valley she now calls home. With over a decade of experience at the Mad River Barn, Adrienne’s commitment to exceptional service and guest satisfaction is evident.

Throughout her career, Adrienne has honed her skills in various restaurants and inns across Vermont and New England, including notable locations in Rhode Island and Martha’s Vineyard. Her diverse experience has cultivated a profound appreciation for the hospitality industry and the meaningful connections formed with guests. Adrienne takes pride in becoming a part of her wedding couples’ stories and creating memorable experiences.

In addition to her professional accomplishments, Adrienne is a Leo, a dog mom to Mayreau & Barnsy, a devoted Swiftie, and an enthusiastic connoisseur of cheese and wine. Known for her tendency to over-order food and rearrange furniture, Adrienne brings a unique blend of energy and warmth to every aspect of her life and work.

Sam D’Avignon

Executive Chef

A proud native of Middlebury, Vermont, Sam D’Avignon has cultivated a distinguished culinary career that reflects his deep roots and passion for exceptional cuisine. Sam’s journey began at Pauline’s Cafe, where he trained in traditional French cooking under the mentorship of David Hoene. This foundational experience set the stage for his future success.

Sam’s culinary exploration took him to Boston, where he further developed his skills with Season to Taste Catering. His expertise grew as he served as sous chef at The Common Man in Vermont, working alongside renowned New York chef Adam Longworth.

Returning to his Vermont roots, Sam’s professional and personal life intertwined when he met Adrienne Cady, his partner and General Manager of the Mad River Barn. Sam has since become an integral part of the local food scene, contributing significantly to the Mad Taco franchise and serving as the Executive Chef of the Barn at Smugglers’ Notch.

Beyond the kitchen, Sam is a hockey enthusiast, a punk rocker, and a tattoo-loving teddy bear. He is also known for his appreciation of a well-crafted cocktail, adding a personal touch to his culinary artistry.
